Reumatoïde artritis en anticonceptie!
Vrouwen die gedurende zeven jaar of langer de pil nemen, hebben minder kans op ontstekingsreuma of reumatoïde artritis (RA). Dat blijkt uit een onderzoek van het Karolinska Instituut in Zweden [1].
Hormonale factoren spelen blijkbaar een rol. Hiermee hebben Zweedse onderzoekers weer een stukje van de puzzel gevonden, waarom vrouwen minder kans op deze aandoening hebben dan mannen.
Reumatoïde Artritis (RA) is een chronische ziekte met als belangrijkste kenmerk ontstekingen in gewrichten. Zo’n ontsteking ontstaat doordat het eigen afweersysteem de gewrichten aanvalt. Het is een zogenaamde auto-immuunziekte. Reumatoïde Artritis (RA) geeft ontstekingen, gekenmerkt door pijn, zwelling, stijfheid en functieverlies van de gewrichten. Functieverlies wil zeggen dat mensen met RA minder met hun gewrichten kunnen doen. Het betreft vooral de hand-, voet- en polsgewrichten, maar alle andere gewrichten kunnen ook worden aangedaan.
De studie onderzocht gegevens van bijna 2600 Zweedse vrouwen met reumatoïde artritis (RA) en ruim 4100 vergelijkbare vrouwen zonder RA. Het bleek dat vrouwen die de anticonceptiepil hadden gebruikt een lager risico op het ontwikkelen van RA hadden, dan vrouwen die die de pil nog nooit hadden gebruikt. Ook borstvoeding leidde tot een lager risico, maar dit verschil was statistisch niet significant.
Omdat het hier om een observationele studie ging, kan evenwel niet aangetoond worden dat er een oorzakelijk verband bestaat tussen pilgebruik en de verlaagde kans op RA. Er kunnen ook andere, onbekende factoren een rol hebben gespeeld.
Aminozuren helpen ook
Bindweefsel is weefsel dat bestaat uit vezels die krachten van het bewegen opvangen. Dit komt eigenlijk neer op al het weefsel in het lichaam. Structuren die vallen onder bindweefsel zijn onder meer spieren, pezen, botten, gewrichtsbanden, gewrichtskapsel en (gewrichts)kraakbeen.
Het zijn specifieke aminozuren die een belangrijke rol spelen bij de aanmaak en opbouw van (gewrichts)kraakbeen. Deze aminozuren hebben bovendien een ontstekingsremmende werking. In vivo onderzoek uitgevoerd aan de universiteit van Rochester Medical Center (USA), bevestigt de unieke voordelen van specifieke aminozuren in ondersteuning van gezonde gewrichten door regeneratie van kraakbeen en zijn belangrijke ontstekingsremmende werking [2].
Een grote hoeveelheid wetenschappelijke studies bevestigt de werkzaamheid van deze aminozuren, die het bindweefsel ondersteunen en gezonde gewrichten bevorderen. Deze gegevens omvatten in-vitro, in vivo en meervoudige placebo-gecontroleerde klinische studies [3]. Uit studie, double-blind randomized, placebo-controlled, is voorts gebleken dat aminozuren de aanmaak van nieuw kraakbeen bevorderen [4].
