Botontkalking: studies voorkeursmatige botaanmaak boven botafbraak

In Nederland hebben meer dan een miljoen mensen last van osteoporose (botontkalking). Naarmate we ouder worden neemt de botdichtheid af. Een gevolg hiervan is dat de botten brozer worden en gemakkelijker breken. Bij vrouwen na de menopauze is er vooral een snellere afname van de botdichtheid.

In talrijke studies {1] is bevestigd dat door dagelijkse inname van uitgekiende aminozuren (eiwitten), de botcellen die belast zijn met botvorming (osteoblasten) voorkeursmatig worden gestimuleerd, vergeleken met cellen die betrokken zijn bij botafbraak (osteoclasten), hetgeen leidt tot een toename van botvorming.

Productie van collageen in ons lichaam is het hoogste in de leeftijd tot 25 jaar. Daarna vertraagt de productie van collageen. Een geleidelijke achteruitgang van de collageenvezels in weefsels kan ontstaan, waardoor botten broos worden, kraakbeen versneld slijt en gewrichten pijnlijk kunnen aanvoelen. De aminozuurverbindingen stimuleren de cellen om nieuwe eiwitten (collageen) aan te maken en op te bouwen
